What a game last night. With two records tied and three new records set this really was the Super Bowl we had hoped for. But it didn’t start out that way. The first half started out to a very slow start. In the first quarter the Colts moved down field and then had to settle for a 38 yard field goal, which the kicker, M. Stover hit. Then with 4:36 left in the quarter Peyton Manning led the Colts down field for the first touchdown of the game. The quarter ended Colts 10 Saints 0. Here is when one of the tied records come in. The biggest comeback ever to win a Super Bowl is ten points. So the Saints were from then on setting out to do something that had only been done once in Super Bowl history. The second quarter saw only two scores which were both by the Saints. Saint’s kicker Garrett Hartley hit two field goals one from 46 and the other from 44 to not only make the score 10-6 but also to tie a Super Bowl record of making two field goals over 40 yards. Then after The Who played in the halftime show the Saints came out to do something that had never been done in any quarter but the fourth in the Super Bowl. As they lined up to kick-off the Saints kicker went for an onside kick which, after a huge pile-up was recovered by the Saints. From then on the game became a match-up of the Quarterbacks. In the third-quarter each teams exchanged touchdowns. Then with 4:14 left in the quarter Garrett Hartley made Super Bowl history by hitting his fourth field goal from over 40 yards. The score going into the fourth and final quarter of Super Bowl XLIV was 17-16 Colts. The Saints scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter. The first one was to J. Shockey off a two yard pass by Drew Brees. The second touchdown was off a 74 yard touchdown interception. The game ended soon after with the Saints winning 31-17. This score tied the record for biggest comeback in Super Bowl history. Drew Brees also tied the record for most completions in a Super Bowl with 32. This Super Bowl also got the record for most watched television show ever with an estimated 106.5 million viewers.
I think this was the best Super Bowl I have ever seen. Both teams played very well but I think the better team won. This win is also great for the city of New Orleans who is still in the rebuilding process after the hurricane. As many of the players said after the game, they won the Super Bowl for the city of New Orleans
