The Higher The Climb The Farther The Fall

As my family and I walk up to the cashier at Safeway to purchase our food something catches my eye. Tiger Woods and Elin, Tiger’s soon to be ex-wife, are staring out at me from 5 different magazine covers. Some have both of them of the cover, some only have Tiger, some even went as far as to put both of them and their kids on the cover. Each picture is accompanied by multiple headlines, each one spelling out more bad news for Tiger.

Seeing all of this really proves the saying “the higher the climb the farther the fall.” Tiger Woods is probably the worlds best known golfer and when the story broke it was huge news. If you don’t remember, it started with a car crash on Thanksgiving day at around two o’clock in the morning. Tiger crashed into a tree while pulling out of his drive way. Suspicion arose with the sense of relief that he was going to be of. Where was he going? Why did he crash? Big trees don’t just randomly appear in golf star’s front yards. He should know it is there being as he uses his driveway multiple times per day.

Then, a little while later, more news comes out. This news reports possible, as Tiger put it “transgressions”. Then a few days later a voicemail is released that has Tiger telling this women to change her speed dial number for him so his wife doesn’t find out and it just gets worse for him from there. He still thinks he can fix his mistakes and make up with Elin. I doubt it.

Some people may still think that Tiger Woods will be able to get out of this mess, I disagree. This isn’t the golf course where if he makes one bad shot he can fix it with the next. No, if you make one huge mistake it can take your career away. He has already lost many sponsors and will continue to make even less money. As an example, EA sports does a Tiger Woods video game (it makes sense, who is going to want to buy a game called PGA Tour 2010?) but sales may now suffer from people not wanting anything to do with him.

Overall, I think it will be some time before we hear some good news for Tiger Woods.
